Selling the Drama Keyword: September 11 Septoplasty

And now they're gone.... 11 July 2000
The twin towers overlooking lower Manhattan.... Miss Liberty in the distance...
WTC 11 July 2000
Another look at the Twin Towers....
Twice as high as anything.... 11 July 2000
They were twice as high as anything else in the area.... 400 meters into the sky......
Last flight before everything changed.... 10 September 2001
Originally I was going to fly in the morning on the 11th, but that turned out to be too early, so I took a plane the night before. The plane was almost empty, it was such a pleasant quiet trip.... The next morning I woke up and got to the lobby of the hotel where people were crowded around televisions showing CNN.... My body was shaking and I thought I was having a nightmare and waiting to wake up....
Half Mast at Colorado Capitol 12 September 2001
All the flags on half-mast, the city quiet, I went for a walk....
Ready to broadcast 12 September 2001
Reporters were stationed all over the place at buildings and airports... Ready to give an immediate report when something new would happen....
Puts everything into perspective 14 September 2001
Driving for two days across America and seeing those amazing rock formations that have been there for thousands of years put the events of September 11 slightly into perspective..... It surely helped me....
Business as usual 15 September 2001
Every single Casino had huge 'God Bless America' advertisements on them (see also other photo from that day), but it still was business as usual in Vegas when we were passing through....
Secret Capital of the US 15 September 2001
Every single Casino had changed their advertisements to 'God Bless America' and 'One Nation Under God'. God should be replaced by the green dollar of course.... The Radio said things like 'take your mind off this weeks events, go and buy something nice for yourself'..... I found all of that slightly obscene, knowing I was going to return two weeks later.....
Two weeks later.... 29 September 2001
...we were back in Vegas.... Surprisingly the NYNY hotel, a fake collection of all things NYC serves as a wall where people leave flowers, messages and roses.... in honor of the people in NY....
Chaos in the Airports Pt. I 30 September 2001
So this is the queue in front of the security gates. The queue is one and a half hours long.... Never saw so much chaos.... And this is more than two weeks after the incident of September 11....
Chaos in the Airports Pt. II 30 September 2001
If you were checking in luggage, the queues were far more than 3 hours.... and then you still had to pass the security queue which took us almost two hours.... and maybe like those on the photo you had to have your entire luggage opened and unpacked.... piece by piece.....
Parking spot 22 November 2001
The picture doesn't do the atmosphere of this place justice. I have never seen so many planes.... This is just a small part of the overall area in which a hundred planes were parked, now not needed due to the airlines having cut back their schedules. Planes from KLM, Continental, Lufthansa, etc.... Very eerie...
Blocked Road 19 April 2002
Before last September, there was no view to the sky from this place....
Ground Zero 19 April 2002
Eerie.... Nothing is left to remind you of the former twin towers... Just a whole in the ground. Looks like any construction site... Were it not for the many posters in the area....
The Sphere 19 April 2002
Fritz Koenig's sculpture... Once buried under the rubble of the Twin Towers, the sculpture has now found a new temporary home in Battery Park....
People at the Sphere 20 April 2002
I have a special link to the sculptor Fritz Koenig.... He was a pupil at my former highschool (Dom-Gymnasium in Freising) and also for our school he built several sculptures, including the fist in our Aula... I will put some photos of his sculpture up....
Gap in the Sky 20 April 2002
Gap in the sky over Manhattan...
Photos of the missing 20 April 2002
Just after September the 11th, the city was plastered all over with posters of people missing... Some of the posters remain here in Grand Central....
The missing and the dead 20 April 2002
Some photos of posters when peope were looking for their loved ones, full of hope and descriptions.... When all hope was lost, the city was covered in a second wave of posters.... Same photos, but with poems and declarations of love and loss....
Happiest moments 20 April 2002
The photos of the missing were never passport photos... They were photos of the people at their happiest, at weddings, parties, holding babies.... That is how people want to remember them, not as statistics or how they spent their last day... Terribly sad...
Midnight at Ground Zero 21 April 2002
The light shining is where the workers were continuing to remove rubble all night, 24/7.... The gap is so visible, when you look at earlier photos of the World Trade Center taken from the Empire State Building....
Safety measure 18 July 2002
Spot the difference
Pentagon 21 September 2003
The rebuilt area at the Pentagon where American 77 hit it on September 11th.
Back at Ground Zero 23 September 2003
Roughly one and a half year after I went there, back at Ground Zero. Like a wound, it's slowly healing over...
Ground Zero 23 September 2003
Already a memorial and tourist site....

It's been five years and it still feels like it was just yesterday. People are still crying and will continue for years to come. All of the heros from that day will never ever be forgotten and we will never forget September 11, 2001

I really feel bad about every body who died that day and I will remember them for the rest of my life.
Stuart McGregorCanada / Sunday, 24th April 2005
Techincally speaking the slide titled, "Half Mast at Colorado Capitol 12 September 2001" should be titled "Half Staff at ..." The reason being that a mast is on a ship, a staff on land (wrt to flas).
Nicole ostergenRedding california / Friday, 3rd September 2004
Even though I have never been to New York I feel great sympathy. They will always be rememberes.
