End of British Sector at Water's edge

| With our class' only British element in front of it.... Behind this river lies the GDR and the wall... Many who tried to swim over to the West were killed in gunfire.... | ||

| Also see the picture with me standing here in the same position many years later.... The wall just starting behind this building, which the Nazis burned down in 1933 and which before that was Germany's center of democracy. After reunification it is now the official seat of the German parliament. | ||

A photographer's worst nightmare
July 1995 | ||
![]() |
||
| Actually some of the photos from the Reichstag here are digitally repaired.... This one shows the damage of the damn photolab that processed my slides. They destroyed one entire film with a rip through its center... I never screamed so much in a store and was so angry. At first they even claimed it was my fault and then they conceded and offer me a replacement film. All I wanted was my photos in their full quality.... | ||

||
| In order to prove that I was at the Reichstag Wrapping of Christo, I took my photogenic sunglasses and asked this Australian girl, if she would wear them, so I could make a photo of me and the Reichstag. As you can see on her face, the athmosphere at this place was just perfect! Thousands of friendly people from all over the world gathered at a historic site turned pop-art. | ||
Time changes....
July 1995 | ||
![]() |
||
| I wanted to have the same picture like the one that I shot in front of the Reichstag in 1995... Same pose, such a different situation... Then East Berlin was sealed off, with the deadly wall between the two worlds in a divided city.... Now the city and country was reunited.... and the atmosphere in front of the Reichstag was one of peace and prospect.... | ||

| In 1995, the Hungarian artist Cristo came to Berlin and wrapped the former and the future German houses of parliament in silver fabric.... People from all over the world came and rested in front of this huge sculpture.... | ||

Difficult Photo
31 August 2003 | ||

||
| When I started taking this photo, I was stopped by security as the Saudi Royal Family arrived with 30 cars and buses and some hypernervous security guard assholes started aggressively pushing me away. It is a public square and I should be able to take photos and I didn't want any of them on my photo anyway. I waited and made some calm marks that their pea brains could make no reaction to and then shot this photo. The guy in front drove me home - he was way cool and commented on how idiotic the guards had behaved... | ||
