Washington Monument 21 May 2000
Washington Monument as seen from the Lincoln Memorial
My two teenage nightmares 21 May 2000
These are my two teenage nightmares, next to each other... An SS20 and a Pershing 2.... If you want to know what went through my mind these times, it is best to read 'Life after God' by Douglas Coupland....
Lincoln Memorial 7 November 2000
This was on election night..... So I went there and hoped that there would be celebrations or protest.... But it was silent....
More Lincoln Memorial 7 November 2000
Lincoln looks like a judge presiding over America on this on.... Very fitting for that crazy night....
Washington Trees 7 November 2000
The colours of the trees in Washington at autumn are fantastic..... Very intense greens, reds, yellows and oranges....
Washington Monument 7 November 2000
Looking up at night at this impressive structure....
Capitol 7 November 2000
Capitol at election night... Very quiet... After this I took off and headed to Georgetown and spent the evening there in a restaurant watching Florida go from one side to the other....
National Mall after Isabel 20 September 2003
The reflecting pool off the Lincoln Memorial....
My favourite Memorial 20 September 2003
And you can see Abe's bug statue looming in the background....
Abe 20 September 2003
Amazing politician.... What a difference to those who have followed in his footsteps....
German Invasion 20 September 2003
Suddenly these German soldiers appeared from nowhere in front of Abe's memorial... It turned out that it was a special day in DC with troops from different countries visiting and paying tribute to military memorials....
Vietnam Memorial 20 September 2003
Many names, far too many names....
Reflection 20 September 2003
Reflection of Washington Monument in the Vietnam Memorial...
Korean War Memorial 20 September 2003
Soldiers, looking confused, running through the rain...
Visitors from South Korea 20 September 2003
What i like about the Korean memorial is that it lists the names of all the countries who participated and all the lives lost.... Too many... The inscription at the US side of the memorial is poignant: "Our nation honors her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met".
Isabel doesn't like the WW2 memorial 20 September 2003
Isabel almost rammed into one of the pillars of the newly built WW2 memorial - a memorial which to me looks monstrous and will block the view from the Monument to the reflecting pool to the Lincoln Memorial....
American kids 20 September 2003
in front of the home of their prez....
Hopefully... 20 September 2003
...with new inhabitants at the beginning of 2005....
Looking up 20 September 2003
...the Washington Monument....
Puddles of Capitol 20 September 2003
Some drops that Isabel had brought along....
US Capitol 20 September 2003
