| Heart of what some call 'Tokyo's nightlife', but which is mostly a red light district... If you are a westerner, you will get lots of African men come up to you trying to get you into strip-clubs. It's a weird place and gets annoying quickly, but I wanted to take some typical Tokyo night photos so I asked Markus to come along.... | ||

im in shinjuku right now....awesome place great food/shopping/people watching :) i found that if you are in kabukicho as a couple, you are not hassled at all. but go at night...the african dudes are all hustling you into their clubs for 3000-4000 yen "special" all you can drink with peelers they said. Didn't try as it just didn't feel reliable. Consistent with other reports, the japanese dudes did not approach me to get me into their clubs. There were some korean and chinese hustlers also, who didn't set off my spider senses. Still...I could not read the signs and did not have a local with me so I thought it wiser to window shop only.

i stayed in shinjuku for 10 days, mostly because tis central to shibuya, akasaka and ofc shinjuku. shinjuku itself is great, shopping, eating bars etc. its kabukicho that is the red light district and u do have to be careful but mostly its harmless. stay away from hostess bars and strip clubs, apart from that, its a real eye opener.

shinjuku is great, stay at Sunroute Plaza Hotel, and yes there are some men from Nigeria trying to get people into their clubs. They do not seem trusting, and yes I am black. Everyone, shoould be careful, everywhere.

There are plenty of Africans trying to get you into their clubs. I couldn't take 10 steps without someone trying to hustle me. Be careful because their are a lot of bad stories of guys who wandered into places and ended up leaving with bills a lot larger than they thought or ending up in physical confrontations. By the way the Africans approach the foreigners because the Japanese guys won't. Most of the clubs in Kabukicho are for Japanese only.

I just came back from Japan. I stayed in Shinjuku 3 days and I did not see any african let alone anyone trying to get us into strip clubs. It is not a weird place and it does not get annoying at all.
