In many Japanese hotel you are welcomed with a piece of Origami.... This hotel in Tokyo was fantastic, even if very expensive.... Lunch in one of the restaurants was around 150 USD....
Looks just like the Eiffel Tower....
These strange advertisements appeared all over Tokyo... This time at Shinbashi station.... Part of an anti-gun campaign that I still need to understand... I didn't know Japan had a gun problem?
Meeting up with Markus from my school in Germany... Hadn't seen him for ages... He now lives in Tokyo with his wife Eiko and son Niels....

Marc is studying in Osaka.... So I met up with him and we shared several beers and stories....
This time tourists from Europe pose in front of Japanese sights.... This time with Markus at the shops of the Kyobashi area in Osaka.... Of course we have no idea what the signs behind us say...

View on the magnificent mount Fuji from the Shinkansen super-fast train from Osaka to Tokyo.... This photo was accidentally totally underexposed so I had to brighten it up....

Meeting Pauline and some of her colleagues and ex-colleagues....
Glaswegians skating on George Square.... I had flashbacks to 'Small Faces'....

Around 5am in the office of some of Joe's friends.... Tony works here, too....
Fraser and Joe at the OWL Xmas party....
Fraser in his kilt dancing across the club where we ended up... Alastair and Kirsteen in the distance....
Is the fact that the sun rises so late in the winter... The sunrise in Edinburgh is gorgeous with the golden sun shining on the ancient buildings of that great city....
More sunrise....

Chaos at the Airports....
Frankfurt, 21 December 2001
Edinburgh has a few days every year that are fantastic.... That morning was one of them....
I was planning to take many more photos... But Joe was too cold, so we had to grab a taxi and escape... and we went to see the Lord of the Rings.... But apart from that Edinburgh City Centre was the best place to go christmas shopping.... Sunset, castle.... Wow....
Calton Tower, the Balmoral and the Scott Monument....
Frankfurt, two days before Xmas, the airport was shut down and cut off the rest of the area by a blizzard.... This is the queue for the ticket changes at 5am in the morning.... I spoke to one guy in the middle of the queue and he had been standing there for 5 hours already....

Christmas Dinner
Schoenblick, 24 December 2001
I stayed up overnight in a 24 hour pub talking to strangers.... Thank God I was able to easily change the tickets as a Senator.... Otherwise I would have not made it home for Xmas.... And would have had to stay in the queue like these guys....
The view from my home in Freising onto the St. Peter and Paul church and in the distance the silhouette of the alps.....
More sunset photos... This time our main church up on the Domberg hill.....
Usually we have a commonual dish at Christmas eve.... Not this year, when Oli prepared Sea Bass.... Looks as yummy as it tasted....

Just before tea and cookies
Benedikt Beuern, 26 December 2001
I tried to photograph the christmas tree, but the colours were far too red... So I asked Oli to hold up a sheet of white paper, so I could control the white balance... Of course that turned the light from the candles into white light, so it was our of balance, too....
Is meeting up with friends in nearby pubs and bars where people join you often just after they went to christmas midnight mass.... Here what I didn't realize was that Hille is sitting at the back of the table.... I ended up hanging out with him in the bars until 4am....
After PW was pushing Vreni and myself up the mountain for two hours, we had a short rest and then rushed down the hill....
While we were heading down the hill, the snow got thicker and thicker.... So after a photoshoot, we headed into PW's almost completed Lebenswerk for warming up....
Worst New Years Eve ever....

Carmen and Jasmin
Freising, 31 December 2001
Took us ages to get to the party where we were going to spend NYE.... so when we got there the party was full and noone was going to be admitted.... So it was 20 minutes before NYE and nowhere to go....
10 minutes to go and stranded nowhere... You can see the joy on Jasmin's face.... They and Bernd ended up driving up to munich and dropped me off at the Marienplatz where I met up with Karin and her friends.... At midnight I was in the car....
