Sunset at Manhattan Beach
Manhattan Beach, 9 June 2002
No, these are not animals.... they are a bunch of surfers waiting out in the sea for the waves to carry them to the shore....
Hope somebody picked up the sandals later....
This view of Manhattan beach ain't that nice....
Sparkling reflections on the waves....

Car expo at Orange Julep
Montreal, 12 June 2002
There's a nice little sealife museum on there....
Bars, cafes, clubs, restaurants... and people on the sidewalks.... If it just weren't for the religion of F1....
Hans is studying architecture in Montreal.... Well, it's all a front for a big indulgence in kayaking....
Jerome, Hans' former room mate is a photographer and we came along with him to a car expo where he was going to photograph tuned up cars and their owners.... I am not much into cars, but this was fun....

Fake police car....
I spent an hour taking photos of reflections of this car....
The huge Orange restaurant's parking space serves as the location for the car exhibition....
Not even a dead insect on the cooler....

....as reflected....
I have no idea what this part is, but it looks cool polished like that....
It seems the late 70s Camaro served as an inspiration to George Lucas... Even the little doggy is frightened.
These kids certainly understand more of cars than I do....

Hans represents a new religion, that of Kayakism. Too afraid to miss the early morning bell to get to the raging waters, he just stayed outside of Jerome's home - sleeping bag and Thermarest included - inside his huge van, because he didn't have an alarm clock in his flat.
Showing Jerome and his flatmate how my camera treats ultra-low-light situations....
In Hans fave bar, which was basically a set of living rooms.....
The kind of street atmosphere that I really miss in LA....

England vs. Brazil
Burbank, 20 June 2002
England Scores!!!
Burbank, 20 June 2002
I miss the rain in LA, but certainly don't want it round the clock, when I am on a vacation weekend.... Now I know why Hans went kayaking that weekend....
So instead of sightseeing in the sunshine, I went to the Ritz and spent three hours eating... And alternatively scribbling in 'To-dos' into my Palm.
At the Fox and Hound with Janice, Joe and Cassius.
And the crowd goes wild....
Then... Brazil draws and then... even more goals for Brazil...

Long faces at the Fox and Hound....
Thick fog and clouds over LA.... Can you spot downtown?
Downtown Los Angeles as its peaks reach through the carpet of clouds.... Taken with my Nikon binoculars in front of the 995.

Close-up of a weird looking little caterpillar....
So.... this is San Francisco in the middle of the summer... And it was freezing... A thick carpet of fog crawled across the peninsula and the temperature dropped to eight degrees celsius. Sadly no sight of the Golden Gate Bridge.... I really wanted to see it again up close...
Only a few are hanging out to the right.....
Passing under the Bay Bridge....

And a view onto San Francisco's skyline....
Still foggy over SF.... No sight of the Golden Gate Bridge either....
Tourist Mum and her cubs.... meet Sea Lion mum and her cubs....
So we can see the World Cup finale... Brazil vs Germany.....
Just a few more hours
Hollywood, 30 June 2002
In Holger's apartment.... the cute girl on the left is some girl that Holger asked in the bar to come along to watch the world cup. She came with her Dudley Moore style wasted English boyfriend, who repeated the same story about having met Klaus Kinski two-hundred times and had some interesting thoughts on how to solve the Palestine conflict by shipping just everyone to Arizona and declaring the land there holy.
